About you
Are you trying to manage something in your life?
Do you feel alone and unable to talk to the people around you?
Is there pressure from others to manage better?
Call me to discuss your needs and we will move at your pace to consider the options. Having a safe space where you can talk, feel and explore can be really helpful.
Challenges
Life has ups and downs, and most of the time we feel as if we can manage to find a way. However, occasionally pressure can build up for a while, or something happens that is really challenging, surprising, confusing or overwhelming. And it stretches us to the limit.
At these times our normal coping strategies just do not seem to be enough, and like all human beings, we need to think it through with someone else.
Whether you are dealing with issues related to mental/physical health, adjustment to unexpected change, relationships, or grief and bereavement, call me to discuss your needs and we will move at your pace to consider the options. Having a safe space where you can talk, feel and explore can be really helpful.
Loss & Adjustment
During our lifetime we can experience many losses and most of the time we find a way to understand and manage the impact of what has happened.
It can be the loss of safety, coping, our mental health, work, a home, a relationship, the country you were born in, and most challenging of all, the death of someone important to us.
Losses can be expected or unexpected, sudden or protracted. The loss may be due to a change in health, a serious illness, accident, suicide or homicide. Each loss is challenging in its own way and no matter what has happened, it is always painful and often completely overwhelming.
When we talk to others about our loss and they listen and are there for us, we eventually come to terms with what has happened. And we find a way to live again.
Call me to discuss your needs and we will move at your pace to consider the options. Having a safe space where you can talk, feel and explore can be really helpful.
Grief & Bereavement
We grieve when we love. And when we love deeply, we also grieve deeply. In our own time and in our own unique way.
What helps is to have our pain witnessed, to express our feelings to someone else. This helps release the burden of guilt we so often carry so that we can free ourselves of our wounds. We begin to integrate the love and pain. And eventually to find meaning and live our lives fully.
Even though grief is a normal part of life, it can be so overwhelming, painful and isolating.
There is no normal way to grieve, and no normal timeline. For each of us, grief is a personal experience, and we are on a unique journey without any idea how to manage it.
Having the space to talk to someone who listens without judgement or agenda, helps us understand what we are experiencing, in our own unique way. And in our own time we find a way to make space for what we are experiencing.
Please call me to discuss what support you need and let’s walk this path together for a while.
Trauma
More than two thirds of the population have experienced at least one trauma in their lives. And about a quarter have experience four or more traumas.
Not everyone experiences or reacts to an event in the same way. Consequently, following the event (days, months or years later) some people may have a lingering impact whilst others seem unaffected.
Traumatic experiences can overwhelmed our normal coping and processing strategies. The brain and body changes how it interacts with the world around us and we can be left with a few telltale signs that we are impacted.
Reliving and reexperiencing the event either as a strong memory or feeling physically as if you are there again
Being on high alert all the time for all which impacts sleep, diet, concentration, irritability and anger. A bit like feeling wound up and ready to snap.
Being watchful and avoiding anything that may feel uncomfortable or bring back memories. This includes people, places and experiences. Also smells, sensations, lighting, particular events, sounds, to name but a few.
The overwhelm we experience often leads us to feel numb. And we detach from relationships, enjoyment, closeness and intimacy.
The loneliness and isolation is a further hurdle to recovery.
Not surprising we often also experience depression, anxiety, stress, and relationship challenges. And all trauma has grief.
The good news is that there are many things that can help us manage the impact and often change the impact altogether. Call me to discuss your needs and we will move at your pace to consider the options. Having a safe space where you can talk, feel and explore can be really helpful.
About me
Over the past 26 years, as registered psychologist, I have supported adults of all ages as they deal with the challenges of life, work and living. During sessions my goal is to create a safe and compassionate space where clients can discuss, explore and understand their feelings. We work together to find tools and strategies to help, so that living life fully becomes possible again.
The issues we can work on can include mental health, personal life, relationships, culture, gender, disability, age, work and management challenges. I am experienced in providing individual counselling, critical incident-, manager-, group-, and wellbeing support. And as certified grief educator I am able to support all aspects of loss, grief and grief related trauma.
